PACE Dance Festival (Accra, Ghana)

Through PACE, Vaughn Newman Dance deepens its connections to the earth and the elevated Ancestors. PACE also emphasizes the cross-sectionality of Diaspora and folklore: bridging cultural and traditional arts of the African continent to our interconnected communities integral in reuniting heritage and culture. We are committed to cultivating cultural awareness, understanding, identity, appreciation, and spirituality for all people, domestic and abroad, through the arts and African Dance Culture.

Join choreographer Vaughn Newman for an exciting community dance festival at the historic National Theatre in Accra, Ghana. In collaboration with The National Dance Company of Ghana, this festival is open to anyone of any level and will feature modern contemporary, and traditional West African dance and culture. You'll be able to learn traditional modern/contemporary movements, style, rhythms, and cultural significance of the dances while also working on body strength and flexibility. The class will be accompanied by lively drumming, including a warm-up, background information about the dance(s), a breakdown of the movements, singing, and high-energy dancing. Don't miss out on this incredible experience!

United Shades: Artivism | Advocacy | Allyship for TPOCs

United Shades: Artivism, Advocacy, and Allyship for TPOCs(TRANS People of Color) is a collaboration between Vaughn Newman Dance and Upstate Pride SC seeking to create narratives and authentic storytelling fostering safe spaces for the SC Trans community of color utilizing dance, visual arts, and advocacy. This project aims to inform the partners about a community often targeted by violence and lacking social acknowledgment and understanding.

This project, “United Shades: Artivism, Advocacy, and Allyship for TPOCs,” is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with The National Endowment for the Arts and South Carolina Arts Commission.
