United Shades: Artivism, Advocacy, and Allyship for TPOCs is a collaborative initiative between Vaughn Newman Dance and Upstate Pride SC. The project aims to develop meaningful narratives and authentic storytelling that promote safe spaces for South Carolina’s Trans community of color, employing dance, visual arts, and advocacy as its primary tools. Its overarching goal is to educate partners about this community, which faces disproportionate violence and limited social recognition and understanding.
